INTO THE SUN

Into the sun I stared
The longer I gazed
The more cleansed I hoped to become
To burn everything down
To lose the past in the flames
To lose myself is all I desired
The hope of finding a new life
Reborn from the ashes
Like new growth in the forest
That can only come from flame’s touch

New worlds contained in a flame
The same potential within the shell of an egg
An eggshell so fragile
Yet it holds a life and all the promise of a future
Such is the fragility of life
Sitting on a razor’s edge
Like a puddle in the hot desert sun
Is there time for the water to get to know itself
Before life is extinguished

But what of the water’s beyond
Matter cannot be destroyed
Matter is transferred
Where does the water go?
Into the clouds?
To fill the reservoirs of the sky’s tears
To fall on the other side of the mountain
Does the water know of its destiny?
Has it a preordained plan for the afterlife?

Does it come back again as water?
A raindrop?
A drop in the ocean?
Or a teardrop?
From the eyes that stared into the sun
Failing to blink for fear of missing the moment
Hoping for resurrection
Only to evaporate
One more time
