HISTORY’S LAMENT

If we said goodbye to history
we would close the door on it forever
and all would be lost.

Instead we greet it fervently each day,
keeping it alive
in the hopes of learning something new,
something more to advance us.

But alas we do not learn.
It’s as if history has been killed,
stabbed in the back,
dying a thousand different deaths each day.

And new each day,
that history is rewritten,
to suit today’s point of view.

The evolution of man
devolving before our very eyes
and we don’t even see it.
