This happened early on in my ‘film learning’ on my way back from L.A. No one told me that x-rays damage films and I think I left a roll in a bag that went through extreme radiation.
Although the film was damaged, I actually like the effect that it had on all the photos and will be very hard to recreate so I thought this could be a little bit of fun for a photo book
I am also toying with the idea of putting some films an x-ray machine or travelling just to have my films fucked again – on purpose this time.
On this particular occasion, there are some photos of iconic places such as The Viper Room, a nightclub located on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. It was opened in 1993 and was partly owned by actor Johnny Depp. The club became known for being a hangout of the young Hollywood elite and was the site where actor River Phoenix died of a drug overdose on Halloween night in 1993. In early 1995, Australian singer and actor Jason Donovan suffered a drug-induced seizure at the club and survived. In November 1997, Australian rock star Michael Hutchence played a public performance in the Viper Room, a week before his suicide. A chequered history I wanted to capture in film – photo below.
