Ōtautahi Overhaul

Ōtautahi, the Māori name for Christchurch, has been going through a regeneration after devastating earthquakes in 2010 in 2011.

Christchurch and the surrounding areas have experienced many earthquakes since a 7.1 magnitude earthquake on 4 September 2010. The earthquakes have had a devastating effect on the central city and the people of Christchurch and surrounding areas.

Someone asked me if I’d taken any photos throughout and the answer was no. I had taken a couple of photos here and there but had not considered doing any work based on this.

This series was a way for me to explore the regeneration of Christchurch nine years on from the first earthquake and also the challenge for me to try and bring some colour into my urbanscapes.

This is an ongoing series that I will keep adding to as the rebuild continues.
